Sophomore Brock Peterson hit four 3-pointers for the Cannon Falls boys basketball team in a 75-53 win over La Crescent Thursday in Cannon Falls.

Peterson’s led the Bombers (20-6, 10-2 HVL Blue) with 16 points. The win helped Cannon Falls to its first 20-win season since 1957, Bombers head coach Josh Davisson said.

Sophomore Jordan Lundell added 12 points and four assists. Junior Tanner Jackson scored 10 points and junior Noah Callister had eight points and eight rebounds. Senior Cedric Dicke finished with six points and eight rebounds as La Crescent guarded him with a box-and-one defense, Davisson said.

“We didn’t need to force to Cedric,” he said. “They put so much attention on Cedric and the other guys are stepping up.”

The Bombers had 11 players score in the win.

Zack Melbostad scored 18 points to lead La Crescent and Ben McCoy tallied nine points, all of them coming on 3-pointers. La Crescent only has two seniors and Davisson said he was impressed with the Melbostad played.

“He’s quite the player for a sophomore,” Davisson said. “He’s pretty physical, he can shoot with a hand in his face, and he plays in and out. He’s going to be a nice player.”

Cannon Falls led 35-28 at halftime and made 30 of 56 shots from the field and 6 of 14 from the 3-point line. La Crescent shot 17 of 44 and 6 of 19 on 3-pointers.

Cannon Falls faces Kasson-Mantorville for the Hiawatha Valley League title Saturday at 7 p.m. in Kasson.
