Citizens also repeatedly step up for charities, churches and organizations that reflect their personal values and interests. Goodhue County Historical Society’s Bling and Chocolate, also featured on page 1A, is one example of such efforts that occur throughout the year.

Beyond the money raised, people give of themselves — time, emotional support and more.

We live in caring communities. We tend to think about this at Thanksgiving and Christmas — traditional times of sharing. On this Ash Wednesday, think again.
