Minneapolis - It was a year full of change for the Cannon Falls dance team but one thing remained the same: success.

Bombers first year head coach Madi Salisbury said it was a pressure-packed year as the defending Class A state champions in high kick but with a stellar performance in finals, Cannon Falls finished second Saturday in the Class A high kick dance team state tournament at the Target Center.

“I couldn’t ask for a better performance,” Salisbury said. “I left the floor feeling we couldn’t have done any better. I was so proud of the outcome.”

But the top performance took some coaxing. Salisbury said she got upset with the girls for one of the first times all season after their lackluster showing in prelims.

“We got a little mad at them,” Salisbury said. “We told them ‘you’re cutting yourselves short.’”

The Bombers responded with their best scores of the season, behind only Aitkin. Aitkin also won the state jazz dance title.

“It was a little stressful to hit it at state,” Salisbury said. "It was the most exciting moment of my coaching career."
