Girls Basketball: Cougars slip past Lake City

The Zumbrota-Mazeppa girls basketball team finished off the regular season with a 54-46 victory over Lake City Friday in Zumbrota.

The Zumbrota-Mazeppa girls basketball team finished off the regular season with a 54-46 victory over Lake City Friday in Zumbrota.

The Cougars (13-11, 8-4 HVL Blue) started the season 4-8 and went 9-3 in its final 12 games to finish in third place in the conference.

Ashley Hinsch led Z-M with 18 points and finished with nine rebounds while Amber Jentsch scored 13 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.

The Cougars shot 45 percent from the field and went 4 of 8 on 3-point field goals.

Alexa Blair led the Tigers (10-14, 4-8 HVL Blue) with 19 points and hit three 3-pointers in the second half. Taylor Koller scored 17 points for Lake City, which finished 4-for-17 from 3-point range.

Z-M begins play in the 1AA West subsection tournament next Friday as the No. 4 seed against fifth-seeded Kingsland in Zumbrota. Seventh-seeded Lake City will face second-seeded Stewartville next Friday in Stewartville.
