A slow start was too much for the Lake City wrestling team to overcome in a 43-21 loss to Zumbrota-Mazeppa in the Section 1A quarterfinals Thursday in Lake City.
The Tigers lost the first nine matches before senior Rusty Grisim, ranked fourth in Class A at 145 pounds, won a 7-5 decision over Dillon Downes at 170 pounds. But the damage was done as Lake City won the final five matches in the loss.
Sophomore Will Balow, ranked fourth in Class A at 160 pounds, pinned Caleb Arndt 50 seconds into his match at 182 pounds and senior Austen Poss won a 7-6 decision at 195 against Andy Siems. Sophomore Andrew Denzer pinned Taylor Parker at 220 and senior Pedro Guevara won a 1-0 decision at 285 pounds.
The Section 1A individual tournament will take place Feb. 24-25 at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester.
