The Cannon Falls boys basketball team won its seventh consecutive game Tuesday 60-44 against Zumbrota-Mazeppa in Cannon Falls.
Senior Cedric Dicke had 16 points and nine rebounds to lead the Bombers (18-5, 10-1 HVL Blue). Sophomore Jordan Lundell and junior Paul Rolfes each scored eight points while sophomores Austin Noble and Brock Peterson added seven points apiece.
Junior Kevin Niebuhr led the Cougars (10-10, 6-5 HVL Blue) with 17 points. He also had five rebounds. Junior Nathaniel Rauen scored three points and had eight rebounds. Senior Devon Holtegaard finished with eight points, two blocks and four rebounds.
Cannon Falls head coach Josh Davisson said Z-M hit three 3-pointers to start the game and led early before the Bombers were able to dig in defensively.
As a result, the Cougars committed 18 turnovers and Cannon Falls led 35-25 at halftime.
After the break, it became a typical back-and-forth battle between two defensive-minded teams, Davisson said.
Z-M head coach Darin Raasch said the Cougars played better defense in the second half but it wasn’t enough to get the victory.
“To beat a team like Cannon Falls, you have to put a whole game together,” he said.
One game removed from making just 12 of 37 from the free-throw line against Goodhue, the Bombers sank 17 of 20 free throws.
Z-M shot 37 percent from the field and shot 8-for-12 from the free-throw line.
Cannon Falls plays Kenyon-Wanamingo Friday in Kenyon and the Cougars face Lake City Friday in Lake City.
