Several celebrations are being planned to mark Ellsworth’s sesquicentennial.

Several celebrations are being planned to mark Ellsworth’s sesquicentennial. The first one will be Thursday March 1, when Ellsworth Public Library and local students will unveil a historical re-creation of places and events. Pieces will be featured the entire month and will be on sale in conjunction with Youth Art Month.

The second event will be March 3 at Broz Bar, where a euchre tournament, chili cook-off and a beard contest are planned. The festivities will start at 2 p.m., with the contest at 4 p.m., when photos of clean-shaven participants will be taken.

Contestants are asked not to shave until Sunday June 24, during Cheese Curd Festival weekend. Then, the best beards will be judged in the following categories: Best Handlebars, Most Unique, Full Beard and People’s Choice. The winners in the first three categories will be given trophies, while the people’s choice winner receives $150.

The chili judging begins at 5 p.m. March 3, with awards being presented for first, second and third. Euchre winners will receive $150, $50 and $25, respectively.

To register for the cook-off and euchre tournament, contact Sarah at the Ellsworth Chamber of Commerce at 715-273-6442.
