The most recent Red Wing Arts Association show at Red Wing Fairview Medical Center highlights the works of longtime local Art Kenyon.
Through his work, visitors will see the creative images of a man who embraces the variety and challenge of three disciplines, drawing, painting and printmaking.
Kenyon views drawing as the basis of all serious artwork.
“Drawing is a strong discipline that keeps an artist grounded, not allowing an obsession with technique, materials and preconceived notions of what an object should or should not be,” he said.
Painting allows Kenyon to express his spirit, emotion and personal engagement as he works to achieve a balanced visual image, exhibit organizers said. His landscapes and portraits demonstrate this more clearly.
Part of the uniqueness of woodcuts is that few artists invest the creative thinking and labor intensive work that printmaking requires. Kenyon enjoys the complex challenge to the artist’s creative expression in woodcuts.
The Fairview show displays a diversity of Kenyon’s work. The show runs through March 30 at the Red Wing Fairview Medical Center, lower level cafeteria.
The Red Wing Arts Association is committed to a focus on promoting the arts and support of the creative community in Red Wing and the surrounding area. For further information contact 651-388-7569 or info@rwarts.org
