The Red Wing boys hockey team was outshot 57-11 in a 6-0 loss to first-ranked (1A) Hermantown Saturday in Hermantown.
Junior Preston Blaney did his best to keep the Hawks at bay in the first two periods, making 35 saves, but Hermantown scored three third period goals to down the Wingers. Blaney made 51 saves in the loss.
The Hawks (23-0) had six different players tally a goal, with Jake Zeleznikar leading the team with one goal and two assists. Jared Thomas added three assists for Hermantown.
Red Wing (10-11-1, 6-4-1 Missota) did a decent job of staying out of the penalty box but the Hawks capitalized on both of the Wingers’ two penalties.
Neal Pionk scored the first goal of the game 3 minutes, 35 seconds into the first period and Hermantown added two goals, one on the power play, in the second period.
The Wingers host Academy of Holy Angels Tuesday at the Prairie Island Arena in Red Wing.
