Girls Basketball: Cougars sweep season series against K-W

Laura Brunner scored 21 points and Ashley Hinsch had 18 for the Zumbrota-Mazeppa girls basketball team Friday as it beat Kenyon-Wanamingo 68-57 in Kenyon.

The Cougars (11-11, 6-4 HVL Blue) trailed 27-16 with five minutes to go in the first half before clamping down defensively and taking over the game. Z-M still trailed 34-30 at halftime but limited Kenyon-Wanamingo’s Shelby Auseth with a box-in-one defense in the second half. Auseth scored 13 points in the first half, but the Cougars held her to five in the second half.

Hinsch added seven rebounds and nine assists while Brunner finished with four rebounds and four assists. Amber Jentsch scored 10 points for Z-M.

The Cougars knocked down a season-high seven 3-pointers and finished 7 of 15 from 3-point range.
