Boys Hockey: Red Wing gives up three third period goals in loss

The Red Wing boys hockey team hung with Chanhassen for the first two periods but fell 6-2 Thursday at Prairie Island Arena in Red Wing.

The Red Wing boys hockey team hung with Chanhassen for the first two periods but fell 6-2 Thursday at Prairie Island Arena in Red Wing.

The Wingers (10-10-1, 6-4-1 Missota) gave up goals in the first minute of every period but went into the third period trailing 3-2.

Senior Mike Stegora led Red Wing with two goals. Seniors Marcus Noesen and Tyler Grove each added two assists. Junior Preston Blaney made 24 saves.

Nathan Holasek scored two goals to lead Chanhassen. Connor Kelly, Nate Traina, Jack Spillers and Kent Eklund each netted a goal in the victory.

The Storm outshot the Wingers 30-18 in the game.

Holasek put Chanhassen on the board first with a goal 46 seconds into the game with an assist to Kelly. Stegora responded with a goal of his own at 9 minutes, 47 seconds of the first period and Red Wing went into the first intermission tied 1-1.

Eklund netted a shorthanded goal 43 seconds into the second period and Spillers scored another at 5:12. Stegora cut the lead to one with another goal at 7:30 of the second period.

Kelly scored a power-play goal 56 seconds into the final period. Traina scored and Holasek added another power-play goal as the Storm outshot the Wingers 12-5 in the third period.

Red Wing travels to face Hermantown Saturday.
