Energy was lacking for the Pepin-Alma girls basketball team in a 66-36 upset at the hands of Gilmanton Thursday in Gilmanton.

Eagles head coach Larry Grisen said he was upset with his team’s lack of effort in a game against last-place Gilmanton.

“A lot people standing around waiting for people to make plays,” he said. “It was a first place team playing a last place team but that’s no excuse not to be mentally ready.”

Junior Ali Murray led Pepin-Alma (11-4, 8-2 Dairyland-Small) with 18 points and senior Molly Grisen added five points. The Eagles made 7 of 14 free throws.

Brittany Laehn scored 18 points to lead Gilmanton (4-10, 2-5 Dairyland-Small) and Courtney Bork tallied 16 points. Gilmanton made 21 of 23 free throws in the victory.

Pepin-Alma led 11-10 at the end of the first quarter but trailed 29-17 at halftime.

The Eagles play Spring Valley Monday in Pepin.
