Senior Molly Grisen scored 19 points as the Pepin-Alma girls basketball team defeated Melrose-Mindoro 66-40 Friday night in Melrose.

The victory gives the Eagles (11-3, 8-1 Dairyland-Small) sole possession of first place after Independence lost to Eleva-Strum.

Junior Brianna Ellison scored 14 points and Sophia Reidt added 13 points for Pepin-Alma in the win.

Kendra Anthony scored 12 points to lead Melrose-Mindoro.

The Eagles led 38-20 at halftime and got Grisen involved early, Pepin-Alma head coach Larry Grisen said. Molly Grisen scored 10 points in the first quarter.

“Offensively, we moved the ball well,” Larry Grisen said. “The girls did a good job of finding (Molly) on the backside of our zone offense.”

Melrose-Mindoro finished 1 of 9 from the free-throw line and the Eagles press defense created a good amount of turnovers, Larry Grisen said.

Pepin-Alma shot 13-for-21 from the free-throw line.

The Eagles play Thursday at Gilmanton.
