Red Wing’s defensemen combined to score four of the team’s nine goals Friday in a 9-3 rout of Farmington in Farmington.
Junior defenseman Paige Haley netted two goals and senior Elle Anderson added two as the eighth-ranked Wingers (14-5-1, 8-1 Missota) rolled past the Tigers for the second time this season.
Emily Stegora added two goals while Nicole Schammel, Cori Fairbanks and Katelyn Hadler added goals.
Red Wing head coach Scott Haley said he felt the game had the makings of a trap game considering Farmington’s goaltender Jessica Erchul came into the game with a .919 save percentage and a 2.14 goals against average prior to a matchup with Blake. But against Blake she gave up eight goals in an 8-1 loss.
Anderson recorded a two-goal game for the second consecutive game and now has eight goals and 11 assists for the season.
“That’s a tough thing to deal with when you’re getting production from the blue line,” Scott Haley said.
The Wingers actually fell behind in the first period against Farmington twice but rallied to tie twice and close out the period in a 3-3 tie.
Hadler, Fairbanks and Stegora all scored in the second period to make it 6-2 and Red Wing added a 5-on-3 short-handed goal from Stegora and two from Anderson, including a power-play goal.
The Wingers had 46 shots on goal and face Northfield Thursday in Red Wing.
