Cochrane-Fountain City’s depth was too much for Pepin-Alma Thursday night in a 54-36 loss in Alma.

Sophomore Charlie Raethke led the Eagles (1-7, 1-3 Dairyland-Small) with 11 points, seven rebounds and four blocks. Sophomore John Nuzum added four and seven rebounds and junior Cole Carroll had seven points and four assists in the loss. Pepin-Alma made 8 of 15 free throws.

Cochrane-Fountain City had 11 different players score in the game and Parker Lyga led the team with 10 points. Cochrane-Fountain City was 10-for-14 from the free-throw line.

“They were pressing and playing up-tempo,” Pepin-Alma head coach Loren Mueller said. “We didn’t turn it over a lot, we just weren’t getting good looks.”

Pepin-Alma committed 11 turnovers.

The Eagles trailed 31-14 at halftime but got better shots in the second half and cut into the lead, Mueller said. Pepin-Alma pulled to within nine points on two occasions in the second half but did not get closer.

The Eagles host Independence Tuesday.
