Red Wing senior forward Mike Stegora continued his torrid scoring stretch Tuesday in a 7-1 victory over Chaska Tuesday in Red Wing.

Stegora scored three goals and added an assist to give him seven goals in the last three games. Junior forward Taylor Hanson added two goals while sophomore defenseman Michael Bigelbach netted his first goal and two assists. Junior Alex Rezansoff and sophomore Tyler Rea each had two assists.

“We’re older, we’re deeper, we’re more skilled and we’re playing at home,” Wingers head coach Mike Belisle said. “We did exactly what we need to do there. It was a good night.”

Stegora scored twice in the first period and Bigelbach added a goal as Red Wing jumped out to an early 3-0 lead.

Hanson added two goals in the second period, including a shorthanded goal to make it 6-1. Tyler Grove connected for a goal 38 seconds into the third period for the 7-1 final.

The Wingers outshot the Hawks 35-18 despite taking four penalties in the game. Penalties have haunted Red Wing at times this season and Belisle wants to see that change.

“Against good teams that kills you,” Belisle said. “Somewhere somehow before February comes around we have to make sure we cut those in half.”

Jack Burkle got his second consecutive start in goal for the Wingers and the freshman picked up his first career victory with 17 saves.

Belisle said he plans to start junior Preston Blaney in goal Friday when Red Wing faces New Prague in New Prague.
