The Zumbrota-Mazeppa girls basketball team had a tough time getting any kind of offense going Friday against Hayfield in a 49-36 loss in Hayfield.

The Cougars (2-5) made five field goals in the second half and watched as a two-point deficit at halftime grew into a 13-point loss.

Z-M cut the game to five once in the second half, but the Vikings’ quick start in the second half killed any thought of a complete comeback.

Hayfield extended the lead from two at the start of the second half into eight two minutes into the half, Cougars head coach Scott Paukert said.

Dani Wagner led the Vikings with 18 points.

Ashley Hinsch finished with nine points, four rebounds, three steals and four assists in a losing effort.

Z-M junior Laura Brunner added eight points and seven rebounds. Junior Amber Jentsch scored seven points.

The Cougars face Dover-Eyota Monday in Zumbrota.
