Warming house will open Dec. 19
The warming house at Red Wing Athletic Field will open Monday Dec 19. Hours are 4 to 8 p.m. weekdays and 1 to 8 p.m. weekends. There are two rinks available at the Ath, one for hockey and one for public skating. The warming house has skates available for use. Warming house hours are subject to change and are conditional on weather.
Arena skating
There will be open skating at Prairie Island Arena from 10 to 11:30 p.m. Saturday Dec. 17. Cost is $3. Rental skates are available for $3. There is also open skating Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Skate with Santa
Join Red Wing Figure Skating Club’s annual Skate with Santa from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Sunday Dec. 18 at Prairie Island Arena. There will be holiday treats and pictures with Mrs. Claus. Cost is $5.
T-shirt contest
United Way is sponsoring a T-shirt design contest in conjunction with the Red Wing High School Community Service Letter program. Students in grades 10-12 are invited to create a design for the back of the “Live United” shirt. The one-color design should be an original work of art that represents community service.
Applications are available from the RWHS art department or at the Community Rec office. Deadline is Dec 22. The winner will be awarded a $25 gift card.
Students can earn a letter by completing 50 hours of community service. Information regarding the program is available at the Community Rec office. Service hours will be counted through April 20 and there will be a recognition banquet May 2. All participants will receive a T-shirt from United Way this spring.
Ski club
Ski club for middle and high school students begins this week. On Thursdays, the bus departs Twin Bluff at 3:15 p.m. for Welch Village, returning at 7:15 p.m. The nine sessions end Feb. 23, and there is no ski club Dec. 22 and Dec 29). Cost is $80. Skiers must provide equipment and ski pass.
