A speedy Rochester Lourdes team found some lightning-quick goals Thursday in an 8-0 victory over the Red Wing boys hockey team in Rochester.

“They carried the play,” Wingers head coach Mike Belisle said. “There were spots in the game tonight we matched their play, but it was too short lived.”

Red Wing (1-1) fell behind 4-0 after the first period and struggled to take care of the puck throughout the evening, Belisle said.

The Eagles, four-time defending section champions, outshot the Wingers 32-13 and used their speed to make Red Wing pay for turnovers.

“Once we started mismanaging the puck, their speed just took over,” Belisle said. “We got back on our heels and they took over.”

Lourdes scored three power-play goals to make matters worse for the Wingers and led 6-0 after the second period.

Red Wing faces South St. Paul Tuesday in Red Wing.
