Anthony Mancheski, the driver of a vehicle that caused a fatal crash in Hastings last May just north of the Hastings bridge, pleaded guilty Thursday in Washington County court to a count of criminal vehicular homicide. He will be sentenced Feb. 24.
The crash killed Brian Jacobson, a 34-year-old Lake City resident. Jacobson was a husband, a father and a National Guard soldier who served his country in Iraq.
Bail was set at $25,000.
Mancheski was running late for work and the State Patrol estimates he was traveling faster than 85 mph on his way down the Highway 61 hill into Hastings. He bumped a car in front of him, and both southbound vehicles skidded across the median and into the northbound lanes, where they struck Jacobson's vehicle.
Mancheski has had numerous driving citations, including a speeding violation just a few weeks after the crash.
