Red Wing is a community without bounds — a special place to live, work and raise a family. This rivertown truly represents the best of the past, present and future.
Our city cherishes its historic past as demonstrated by the preservation of numerous landmarks. Red Wing was ranked 23rd among the most historic places to visit in the world by the National Geographic Traveler magazine. We have benefited immensely from the investments of our city fathers who took steps to ensure Red Wing will remain vibrant for their children, grandchildren and generations thereafter.
Economic prosperity for all citizens is at the core of our city’s and citizens’ success, and that depends upon economic diversity. Agriculture has been a mainstay of the local economy since the beginning. Distinctive retail stores in our downtown and elsewhere ensure that Red Wing remains a regional retail center. Our manufacturing sector represents a mix from small to large, light industry to heavy industry. The technology ranges from century-old processes at Red Wing Pottery to the latest in technology at the Xcel Energy Prairie Island nuclear plant.
Our new fiber telecommunications infrastructure will help to ensure that our current and future business owners will have all of the tools to compete in the world market place while enjoying our historic city.
The Mdewakanton Prairie Island Indian Community is an important part of our rich heritage, too. And its main business venture, Treasure Island Resort & Casino, is a centerpiece of the local tourism industry.
Red Wing is a blue-ribbon community attractive to young and old, no matter your needs or your interests. It has all the amenities for you to call home and live comfortably – excellent schools, diversified employment and top-notch health care.
Our community is close enough to the Twin Cities to take in a professional sporting event. And it is far enough away to maintain its distinctive charm. Together, these elements add up to a superb and vibrant quality of life.
