The Red Wing Public Library is about reading materials and much more.

Located downtown at Third Street and East Avenue, the library has an extensive book collection, including teen and children's materials, plus video and audio materials, magazines, newspapers and reference materials. The library also offers ebooks.

Resources also are available online. Personal computers with Internet access are available for public use.

Programs for children

Numerous reading programs are offered for children of all ages. The times vary during the year.

Winter Saturday: From January through March, the library holds Winter Saturday children's programs on the first and third Saturdays. Geared toward preschoolers, these themed story times include stories, songs, rhymes and take-home crafts.

Baby Storytime: Once a week, year-round, Baby Storytime is offered. This program is for children ages birth to 18 months, with their parents or caregivers. No registration is necessary; older brothers and sisters are welcome as guests. The program is co-sponsored with Early Childhood Family Education.

Preschool Storyhour: Weekly sessions are offered for children ages 3 to 5. Books, music and finger games are featured. Sessions are on Wednesday mornings. No registration necessary.

Toddler Tales: From fall through spring, Toddler Tales is a weekly sharing of stories, songs and movement for children age 18 months through 3 years. Registration is not required. Brothers and sisters are welcome as guests.

Teens Of Our Library (T.O.O.L.): Young people ages 12 to 18 can voice their opinions on what the library offers them, including programs, book and magazine selections and the library's teen Web page. Meetings are generally on the third Monday of every month.

Friends

The Friends of the Red Wing Public Library sponsor author visits and other programs at the library. Members also conduct an award-winning outreach program to the Goodhue County Adult Detention Center, arrange for book donations to local agencies, sponsor the annual "Hot reads for Cold Nights" and raise money for the library via used-book sales twice a year.
