Groups help put the buzz in business

The Red Wing area business community has many local resources for assistance and promotion. One of the top goals, as outlined by the Mayor's Blue Ribbon Task Force on Economic Development in 2010, is to work more closely together.

The Red Wing area business community has many local resources for assistance and promotion. One of the top goals, as outlined by the Mayor's Blue Ribbon Task Force on Economic Development in 2010, is to work more closely together.

To that end, three operate out of the corner Cogel-Phelps Building: Red Wing Area Chamber of Commerce, SCORE and Downtown Main Street.

Their addresses vary depending on which entrance they use overlooking John Rich Park, the Red Wing Family YMCA or the Post Office. All share the Studebaker Park ramp with Red Wing Public Library and surrounding businesses.

The Red Wing Port Authority and the Greater Red Wing Economic Development Corp. also have common headquarters. Plus, the Goodhue County Economic Development Authority is two blocks away.

Red Wing Area Chamber of Commerce:

The local chamber provides programs and services that enhance the business climate and community.

Downtown Main Street:

Red Wing Downtown Main Street is a non-profit association of individuals, businesses, and community organizations interested in the promotions, preservation and development of the downtown district. The Red Wing Downtown Main Street council serves as a catalyst for reinvestment in the downtown.

SCORE:

Previously called the Service Corps of Retired Executives, SCORE offers free, confidential consultations to small business owners and those who want to start a small business.

Goodhue County Economic Development Authority:

The Goodhue County EDA creates tax-increment financing districts and works with businesses considering a move to the county. The EDA works every city within in the county.

Greater Red Wing Economic Development Corp.:

The Greater Red Wing Development Corporation comprises community leaders committed to the economic vitality of Red Wing. They formed the group to make strategic real estate investments in the community that will generate jobs and additional investment.

Red Wing Port Authority:

Like the county EDA, the Port Authority is charged with economic development, industrial development and redevelopment.

The Port Authority's role is to serve as the primary leader for promoting economic and industrial development. The agency also works to identify and coordinate redevelopment for the purpose of enhancing the tax base, promoting employment and contributing to the economic vitality and quality of life.
