A 75-year-old man was killed Thursday night when a fire broke out at his house at 433 Spring Creek Road South in Red Wing.
An autopsy performed Friday confirmed that Donald Max Peterson died of smoke inhalation, Red Wing Fire Captain Scott Will said.
Firefighters and paramedics responded to a call around 8:30 p.m. and found the main floor of the house engulfed in flames.
It took crews about two hours to extinguish the fire. A neighbor had called 911 after noticing a large amount of smoke in the area.
Authorities believe the fire started in the kitchen of the house, but the cause is still under investigation.
