Wingers take fifth at True Team meet

The Red Wing girls swimming and diving team tied for fifth place Saturday at the Section 1A True Team meet in Northfield.

The Red Wing girls swimming and diving team tied for fifth place Saturday at the Section 1A True Team meet in Northfield.

The Wingers finished even with St. Peter, and the meet concluded a busy week for the team.

“Overall this was a rough meet for the ladies,” Red Wing head coach Kevin O’Brien said. “They were pretty tired after having three meets in the past week. Overall spirits stayed high though, with the girls keeping a positive attitude. We are excited to see what the ladies can do in their final meets of the season.”

Wingers senior Abbey Schnaith won the 100-yard freestyle in 53.93 seconds. Schnaith also took third in the 200 free in 2:00.04.

Jess Kolsky took fifth in 1-meter diving with a score of 264.65.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Schnaith, Hannah Walch, Ashley Thompson and Ingrid Olson finished fifth in 1:47.04.

The 400 free relay team of Schnaith, junior Amy Nemanich, Sydney Steger and Dani Peterson cut more than 12 seconds off its seed time to place sixth in a time of 4:03.24.

Hannah Walch took sixth in the 100 butterfly, nearly taking two seconds off her seed time to finish in 1:09.54.

Thompson took sixth in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:28.21.

Amy Nemanich took sixth in the 500 free in 5:49.2.

The 200 medley relay team of Steger, Thompson, Walch and Jordyn Dieman took eighth in 2:04.46.

Julia Hofer took 11th in the 100 fly with a time of 1:12.21.

Olson took 11th in 1:10.44 and Steger took 13th in 1:10.84 in the 100 backstroke.

Nemanich took 12th in the 200 freestyle in 2:10.57. Olson took 13th in the 50 freestyle in 27.06. Hannah Kolsky finished 13th in the 500 free with a time of 6:03.89.
