Mario Pena had a day for Shakopee at the expense of the Red Wing boys soccer team Tuesday in Shakopee.
The Sabers senior scored all three goals in a 3-0 victory, two of them coming in the first half. Pena scored little more than six minutes into the match when he received a through ball and shot from 18 yards out to beat Wingers goalkeeper Andy Tarr. His next goal came on a shot from 25 yards away to make it 2-0 with 16:47 left in the half.
Shakopee (7-6-2, 3-1-1 Missota) added a goal from Pena eight minutes into the second half on an assist from Abdelfatah Abdelfatah. Pena beat Tarr, who came off his mark, for an easy goal.
The Sabers outshot Red Wing (4-7-2, 1-5 Missota) 11-6, but few of the Wingers’ chances were quality head coach Matt Quinn said.
Red Wing faces Chanhassen Thursday at home in its final regular season game. Section playoff seeding will take place Saturday and the Wingers will open play next Thursday.
