Ellsworth man injured while cutting tree

An Ellsworth man was injured Saturday afternoon when a tree he was cutting snapped free and struck him. He was kept overnight at Regions Hospital in St. Paul and released Sunday.

An Ellsworth man was hospitalized at Regions Hospital overnight Saturday following a wood-cutting accident in the town of Martell.

Evan Sayre, 42, was transported from the scene at W5878 690th Ave. by medical helicopter early Saturday afternoon after being struck in the upper body by a downed tree he was cutting.

A witness said Sayre was working to clear trees damaged when a tornado passed through the area on July 14th, 2010. A spring-loaded limb snapped free and struck Sayre in the chest and face. He was wearing a helmet and other protective gear, which likely prevented more serious injury.

Sayre was released from the hospital Sunday.

Ellsworth fire and ambulance personnel assisted Pierce County sheriff's deputies at the scene, according to a press release.
