Trost wins ZM/KW Invite

Cannon Falls’ sophomore Emi Trost won the Zumbrota-Mazeppa/Kenyon-Wanamingo Invitational cross country meet Thursday at Zumbrota Golf Course.

The Cannon Falls and Z-M/K-W girls cross country teams finished sixth and seventh, respectively, at the meet.

“The kids ran strong despite it being a busy week with homecoming at both schools,” Z-M/K-W coach Brad Smith said. “Both squads will continue to build on the positives from tonight as we look ahead to mid- and late October.”

Trost finished in 15 minutes, 5.3 seconds in the 4-kilometer race, defeating the runner-up by 12 seconds. Z-M/K-W’s top runner was sophomore Emily Karl, who came in at 16:54.8, good for 12th place.

Fifth-ranked Waseca placed first with 25 points, with six of its seven runners finishing in the top 10. Rochester Lourdes came in second with 60 points, Stewartville placed third with 129, Byron got fourth with 131 and Lewiston-Altura finished fifth with 141. The Bombers received 142 points and Z-M/K-W had 171.

Cannon Falls’ next meet is Tuesday at Trinity School at River Ridge on the Dakota County Fairgrounds.

ZM/KW takes fourth

The Zumbrota-Mazeppa/Kenyon Wanamingo boys cross country team finished fourth at the ZM/KW Invitational Thursday at Zumbrota Golf Course. Cannon Falls came in ninth.

Fifth-ranked Waseca finished first with 35 points, while Byron and eighth-ranked Winona Cotter tied for second with 60 points and Z-M/K-W had 114 points. The Bombers ended with 235.

Waseca’s Shane Streich won the meet in a time of 16 minutes, 24.5 seconds and Z-M/K-W’s Nathan Warneke came in fourth in 17:12.5. Cannon Falls’ top runner was eighth-grader Bjorn Pearson in 20:00.5.
