As this is the 150th anniversary of the start of the War Between the States, Pepin County Historical Society will feature a presentation about the Civil War at 2 p.m. Sunday Oct. 9 in the cafeteria at the Durand Junior-Senior High School.

Mike Barth of Neenah, Wis., will talk about the first few regiments from Wisconsin. Those included his great-great grandfather’s, as well as the 8th Wisconsin, which included a company from Eau Claire and a famous eagle named Old Abe.

Barth’s great-great grandfather fought for three years with the 11th Wisconsin volunteers, who participated in the Vicksburg Campaign in 1863 under General Ulysses Grant.

Civil War artifacts, letters from soldiers and other personal items will be on display.
