New Richmond played with a short field most of the evening Friday and it added up to a 26-7 victory over Ellsworth in New Richmond.
“We gave them field position,” Panthers head coach Clair Austin said. “Not our best effort, that’s for sure.”
New Richmond’s Nate Jones caught a 10-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter and added a 16-yard interception return in the third quarter. Jones also finished with 86 yards rushing.
New Richmond had 223 yards of total offense and took advantage of a short field with 20 and 30-yard scoring drives.
Tanner Hoppe added two touchdown runs for New Richmond, which ran for 169 yards as a team.
Ellsworth (3-3, 2-2 Middle Border) got a fourth quarter touchdown when Jake Murphy connected with Alex Campbell for a 44-yard pass.
Murphy finished 8-for-17 passing for 88 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
Jacob Betthauser led the Panthers with 35 yards rushing and the team finished with 140 yards of total offense.
Ellsworth plays Osceola next week in Ellsworth.
