The Lake City boys cross country team finished seventh at the Lake City Invitational at Hok-si-la Community Park.
The Tigers ended with 174 points. Second-ranked Minnehaha Academy came in first with 30, 11th-ranked Plainview-Elgin-Millville was second with 58 and 10th-ranked La Crescent finished in third with 84 points.
Lake City junior Carston Damman placed fourth with a time of 16 minutes, 47 seconds. Sergey Duchelle finished in 34th at 18:29, Chris Breuer came in 36th at 18:40, Colin Fritz placed 46th in 19:35, Jordan Hyland finished 54th at 20:12 and Calvin Lehman ended in 56th place with a time of 20:27.
We’re young,” Lake City coach Howard Cook said. “We got caught by ourselves at times. But I was very happy with this meet.”
The Tigers are off until next Tuesday when they travel to Ellsworth for the Ellsworth Invitational.
Lake City girls finish sixth at Lake City Invitational
The Lake City girls cross country team came in sixth out of 12 teams Tuesday at the Lake City Invitational.
Third-ranked La Crescent won the meet with 42 points, Minnehaha Academy finished second with 52 and Austin was third with 59 points.
“I was very pleased with our girls,” Cook said. “There were very good teams (at the meet) and we went out and competed and that’s what I was looking for. We’re looking better.”
Alexis Befort came in 20th place in 17:08 seconds and Rebecca Goertzen finished 10 seconds behind her in 24th place. Hannah Alitz, 33rd in 17:48, Lydia Taylor, 36th in 17:55 and Taylor Siewert, 43rd in 18:14, rounded out the Tigers’ performances.
