The Red Wing girls tennis team checked another Missota Conference opponent off its list Tuesday with a 7-0 victory over Chaska in Chaska.
The Wingers (9-2, 4-0 Missota) have three conference matches left including a pivotal matchup with Shakopee next Tuesday in Shakopee that will likely decide the conference championship. The Sabers are the only undefeated team left in the Missota outside of Red Wing.
The Wingers won all the close matches, including two three-set matches. Red Wing sophomore Nicole Schammel came back from a 6-1 first-set loss to win 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. The No. 3 doubles team of junior Maddie Flack and freshman Lauren Brooks rallied from a 6-4 first-set loss to win 6-2, 6-1.
Wingers senior Bryn Christenson breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles and senior Marisa Toivonen overcame a first-set tiebreaker to win 7-6(5), 6-1 at No. 1 singles.
Red Wing eighth-grader Solveig Christenson added a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Lauren Willkom at No. 4 singles.
Wingers junior Katie Kelly and sophomore Emily Stegora came up with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Rachel Meier and Taylor Flood at No. 1 doubles while sophomore Lexi Boek filled in at No. 2 doubles for her first varsity start with senior Nakia Fritz and they won 6-0, 6-4 against Rachel Werch and Brianna Forbrook.
