Goodhue County Board briefs
From the meeting of Sept. 20, 2011.
County IT will collaborate with Red Wing schools
Goodhue County commissioners decided Tuesday to utilize a joint powers agreement with the Red Wing School District concerning data backup storage.
The county and the Red Wing School District each have data backup systems but both need more capacity. By sharing, the county and the district will each save about $32,000 and still have adequate backup capacity for the foreseeable future.
“It’s a win-win for all of us, especially the taxpayers,” said Kevin Johnson, director of buildings and grounds for the school district.
Approving the joint powers agreement was a unanimous decision among commissioners. The School Board also unanimously approved the decision Monday evening.
“If you think of any other ways you can share the cost and share the technology, this board is going to be all for it,” County Commissioner Dan Rechtzigel said.
Meeting watch
Tuesday's county board meeting lasted 1 1/2 hours. All members were present.
