The Red Wing girls’ tennis team defeated Holy Angels comfortably on the road Tuesday 6-1.

“We played pretty well,” Red Wing coach Randy Decker said. “I was really pleased to see Katie Carlson at No. 4 singles. She really played well. I think she was more relaxed and more confident.”

Carlson won 6-1, 6-3 over Carly Wermers.

Decker was also very happy with the play of his No. 2 doubles team of Nakia Fritz and Emily Stegora. Fritz and Stegora dominated their match 6-1, 6-0.

“They are really playing well together there,” Decker said. “They just destroyed somebody at [No. 2 doubles].”

Senior Marisa Toivonen won her No. 1 singles match 6-2, 6-4 and Bryn Christenson won in straight sets 6-1, 6-3.

Red Wing (7-2, 2-0 Missota) faces Northfield in Red Wing Thursday and will host a tournament Saturday in Red Wing.

“This week has been good build up to the tournament competition,” Decker said. “It’s good for us to play some really good teams.”
