County hires shared surveyor

Goodhue County has hired a new surveyor who will split his time between Goodhue and Dodge counties.

Dale Lempke was introduced to the board Tuesday. On top of other experience, he has worked with the county before in his previous role at Minnesota Department of Transportation, Land-use Management Director Lisa Hanni said.

The shared position highlights Goodhue County’s role as a “trendsetter,” Hanni said. She said other counties have asked for copies of the contract to try similar setups.

STS contract renewed

Goodhue County renewed its Sentence to Service contract with the city of Red Wing. The city will pay more than $48,000 for one part-time crew, which will work about 20 hours a week. The newest contract, which has already been approved by the city, runs through June 2013.

Meeting watch

Tuesday’s County Board meeting lasted about an hour and 40 minutes. All members were present.
