Operators shut down Unit 1 at nuclear plant

Operators shut down Unit 1 at the Prairie Island nuclear plant Friday afternoon to fix an oil leak on a turbine valve, officials said.

There were no injures and no release of radioactive material, and the valve is not involved in nuclear operations. The repairs were not expected to be lengthy, according to a statement from Xcel Energy.

Unit 2 remained at full power and in safe condition.
