Red Wing pounded the ball in both games of a doubleheader at Farmington, finishing with a total of 21 hits Friday. However, Post 54 only earned a split of the series.

In the opener, Red Wing won 13-1 in 5 innings.

Farmington came back to win the second game 7-6.

David Goggin led the way in the first game, going 2-for-2 with three runs, an RBI, a double and a triple. Alex Quiding drove in three while Colin McKim went 2-for-3 with two runs, an RBI and a double.

All three were productive players during the high school season, but Post 54 also received big days from players who didn’t see action with the Wingers.

Dillon Lewis went 2-for-3 with three RBI in the opener while Jake Stein was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a double in the second game.

“It was nice to see everyone hit,” Red Wing coach Justin Plein said. “Some of those guys didn’t play a lot during the high school season but they stepped in and contributed when called upon.”

Joel Newman earned the victory in the opener, allowing one earned run over five innings. He struck out four and walked three.

In the second game, Justin Cunningham suffered the loss. He was hurt by three errors that led two four unearned runs. Cunningham was charged with three earned runs in 5 1/3 innings of work.

He gave up 10 hits, walked four and struck out three.

Red Wing trailed 7-4 going into the bottom of the seventh, but scored two runs before an out was made. The Wingers had the tying run on second and the winning run on first, but the next three Post 54 batters were retired.

Red Wing has lost three games this year and in all of them it has rallied in the seventh only to have the game end with the tying run on base or at the plate.

Post 54 (3-3 overall, 3-2 District 3 League C) is off until Wednesday when it plays host to New Prague.

The Red Wing Legion baseball team’s game against West St. Paul Wednesday night was canceled due to inclement weather. No makeup date has been announced.
