GOODHUE -- Surrounded by friends and flashing cameras, Abbey Kohlnhofer was crowned Miss Goodhue on Friday night in the first evening of Goodhue's 2011 Volksfest celebration.

"I am so surprised, but so happy," Kohlnhofer said. "I'm excited to represent my community and have a fun summer going to events with two of my good friends."

Kohlnhofer said she is close with the other nine candidates -- who included sister Jenna -- and some of the group even got ready together for the event.

"It's fun to be here with them," she said of competing alongside her friends.

Joining her court as princesses are Shawna Conrad and Allison Cordes, who also was named Miss Congeniality.

Kohlnhofer is the daughter of Jeff and Carla Kohlnhofer.

The 2010 Volksfest king and queen also passed on their titles to Eldon and Kaye Hinsch at Friday's event, where Goodhue residents packed the school gym.

The pageant is part of Goodhue's Volksfest celebration, which includes music, crafts, games and food.

Saturday's events include a craft show, carnival, games, parades, demonstrations, a watermelon feed and fireworks at dusk.

Sunday features Belgian waffles and a motorcycle and classic car ride. Most events are free, but some require a Volksfest button, which costs $5.
