Nate Zibolski did all he could in the bottom of the seventh Thursday evening in Cannon Falls with his team down 3-1. The senior came up with two outs and Matt Hernke on first and promptly hit his first career home run to send the game to extras. However, Byron struck in the ninth to hand Cannon Falls a season-ending loss in the Section 1AA West Tournament.
A pair of walks, an error and a hit batsman allowed Byron to come away with some easy runs in the ninth frame. The Bears shut down the Bombers one-two-three in the bottom half of the ninth.
"I'm sad that it's over," Cannon Falls coach Bucky Lindow said. "You never like to see it end with a good group of guys."
Tyler Boyle-Hoban started for the Bombers, pitching seven innings. He gave way to Noah Callister, who didn't allow an earned run in his two innings pitched.
"We weren't able to make the play for him in the ninth," Lindow said.
Cannon Falls did threaten in the eighth after getting its leadoff man on base, but it couldn't come through.
"Really good hitting by both teams," Lindow said.
The Bombers ended the year with a 13-9 overall record.
