The Bears’ hitting struggles continued at home Wednesday, but they did just enough to win at John Burch Park.

In the bottom of the ninth, Nick Stark’s grounder through the right side of the infield scored Dan Venn from third for the winning run. Venn was pinch running for Ryan Brintnall, who led off the inning with a single.

Cannon Falls, which collected six hits, scored its other run in the bottom of the first. Zeke Williams led off with a double and two-hitter Luke Winchell followed with an RBI single.

That was all the Bears would need with Jared Woodward and Keith Meyers pitching.

Woodward worked the first seven, allowing one hit and one run. He struck out three and walked four.

“Woodward threw a heck of a game,” said Meyers, the Bears’ player/manager. “He just shut them down. Other than the walks they didn’t do anything against (him).”

Meyers pitched the final two innings to earn the win.

Cannon Falls, which has scored three runs in its last three games, raised its record to 6-6. The Bears' next game is at home Friday against the Metro Merchants.
