Red Wing junior George Gabrielson lost both of his matches Tuesday in the Section 1AA individual tournament and finished fourth.
Rochester Century senior Eric Frueh defeated Gabrielson 6-1, 6-0 in the semifinals. Wingers coach Randy Decker said Frueh "is just a different level." Frueh would go on to win the section.
In the third-place match, Gabrielson lost to Rochester Mayo No. 1 singles player Thomas Nath 6-1, 6-3.
The matches were moved from Rochester John Marshall to the indoor courts at the Rochester Athletic Club. Decker joked that Frueh and Nath live there and he said that it took Gabrielson time to become accustomed to the courts, which play fast.
Gabrielson's final set against Nath was filled with long points and close games, according to Decker.
"Nath is coming back next year," Decker said. "With a strong offseason I think (Gabrielson) can compete with him. George is capable of playing with a guy like that."
