A slugfest is the opposite of what Cannon Falls coach Bucky Lindow said he was expecting Tuesday night in his team’s rout of GMLOK at home. The Bombers exploded for eight runs within the first three innings of the Section 1AA West opener.
"I thought it was going to be a low-scoring affair, which is pretty common in playoff games," Lindow said.
Caleb Leichtnam of GMLOK led off the game with a home run, but that didn't faze the Bombers as they held the visitors scoreless until the sixth inning after that.
Even though the scoreboard may not have indicated it, Lindow said his defense was the story of the game.
"There was just a number of defensive plays that really helped us out a lot," he said.
Trevor Sullivan picked up three RBI and was 1-for-2 at the plate. Cedric Dicke picked up a pair of hits in the game and Noah Callister hit a solo home run in his only at-bat.
With the win, the Bombers advance to take on Byron Thursday at 5 p.m. in Cannon Falls.
