The Wildcats won in the first round of Section 1A East tournament Tuesday night in Goodhue thanks to Brian Strauss' solid performance on the mound.

The senior went the distance, giving up just six hits, striking out five and walking two batters.

"Brian was in control the whole game," Goodhue coach Eric Schofield said.

Rushford-Peterson had no significant threats to score in the later innings, according to Schofield.

Fellow senior Dustin Thomforde led the Goodhue offense, going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. No other Wildcats player collected multiple hits.

"(Dustin) was dialed in tonight," Schofield said. "He's really come on for us in the end of the season."

Andy Johnson also collected an RBI in the game and was 1-for-2 in the batter's box.

Goodhue advanced with the win and will play the winner of the Wabasha-Kellogg vs. Hope Lutheran game on Thursday at 5 p.m.
