Cassie Jamie Bennett, MahpiyaToWin (Blue Sky Woman), 26, of St. Paul, died unexpectedly Monday, May 30, at her home.
Cassie Jamie Bennett, MahpiyaToWin (Blue Sky Woman), 26, of St. Paul, died unexpectedly Monday, May 30, at her home.
She was born Nov. 12, 1984, in Red Wing, to Richard and Audrey (Campbell) Bennett. Her early years were spent in Woodbury, where she attended Woodbury schools.
She is survived by her daughter, Ida Elsie Bennett of St. Paul; parents, Audrey (Dennis) Bennett of Prairie Island; sister, Annjelica Bennett of St. Paul; brother, Larry Yazzie of Tama, Iowa; grandparents Vivian (Joe) Mireau of Prairie Island; uncles Calvin Campbell of Prairie Island, Ralph Pacheco of New Mexico, Delray Smith of Ft. Peck, Mont., Marty Powless of Bad River, Wis., Novie Smith of Long Island, N.Y., Gerald Blacktail Deer of Prairie Island, Melvin Mithlo and Edmund Navequaya, both of Apache, Okla., Audie Swiftbird and Nathan Smith of Ft. Totten, N.D., Merle Tendoy of Rocky Boy, Mont., Buddy Alberts of Ft. Totten, James-Bunny Campbell Jr. of Sisseton, S.D., Terrance-Bugs Bunny Fiddler of Eagle Butte, S.D., Wendell-Hobbit Powless and Saiki Lelso, both of Bad River; aunts Valdean Campbell of Sisseton, Alta Swiftbird of Eagle Butte, Marilyn Mountain of Red Lake, Hilda Mithlo of Apache, Danette-Nettey Whitebreast of Tama, Julie Garcia of Hugo, Minn., and Bridget Childs-Siace of Bemidji; nephews, Benjamin, Antoine, and Marius Bennett, Quan Hollins, Sabra Campbell, and many other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Martin (Elsie) Whitebear, James Campbell Sr. and Ida Wells; grandpa Curtis Campbell Sr.; aunts Rebecca Childs and Julie Redcloud; uncles Curtis Campbell Jr., Winfred Redcloud; and brother Benjamin Bennett Sr.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, June 2, at Prairie Island Community Center with Rev. Johnson Loud officiating. Burial will be at the Church of the Messiah Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Alan Childs II, Brian Childs, Christopher Childs, Solomon Campbell, Joe Menard, and Quinton Green. Visitation will begin on Wednesday at 1 p.m. and will continue until the time of the service on Thursday.
