Panthers roll in opener

Ellsworth plated five runs in the third inning Friday and went on to beat Baldwin-Woodville 9-1 in a Division 2 regional first-round contest.

Winning pitcher Brady Schroeder tossed a one-hitter and struck out eight batters at Brown Field in Hager City. He also was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a pair of RBI.

The Panthers' Dennis Schutz had four hits, an RBI and three runs as the Panthers snapped a three-game losing streak.

Ellsworth, 8-10 overall and the No. 3 seed in the regional, plays at No. 2 Somerset on Tuesday. Somerset had a bye in the first round.

Baldwin-Woodville was the No. 6 seed.
