Three Ellsworth athletes qualified for the Division 2 state tournament in four events Thursday at the sectional in Colby, Wis.
Alex Campbell won the triple jump with a leap of 43 feet, 3 3/4 inches to earn a state berth. He also qualified for state in the high jump by clearing 6-2 and placing fourth.
Abbey Ristow made it to state for a second straight year in the discus. She's moving on thanks to a third-place finish at the sectional meet. Her furthest toss traveled 120-2.
Lydia Kuhl also will compete at the state meet at Veterans Memorial Stadium in La Crosse, Wis. She entered the sectional meet with a seed time of 16.10 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles. In the prelims she set a personal record of 15.75 and then she went even faster in the finals, posting a time of 15.70 and advancing with a fourth-place finish.
Kuhl broke the school record of 15.97, which had stood since 2006.
The state meet is Friday and June 4.
The Ellsworth girls tied for 15th place out of 30 schools at the sectional meet. The boys tied for 16th.
