Area track and field: Bombers take second in girls subsection

Cannon Falls finished second at the Section 1A subsection meet Tuesday in Byron thanks to a litany of second-place finishes.

Cannon Falls finished second at the Section 1A subsection meet Tuesday in Byron thanks to a litany of second-place finishes. The Bombers scored 166.66 team points. The host Bears won the eight-team event with 263 points.

Every individual and relay that finished in the top three advanced to the Section 1A meet on May 31 and June 2 at Triton High School.

Emi Trost, a Cannon Falls freshman, won both the 1,600-meter run (5 minutes, 11.00 seconds) and the 3,200 (11:54.45). She won the 1,600 by 39.71 and the 3,200 by 58.71

Bombers senior Jordan Blakeslee took second in the 400 (1:04.77) and junior teammate Melissa Pranke placed second in the 800 (2:40.26). Sophomore Indy Boeck also picked up a second-place finish by crossing the finish line in the 100 hurdles in 18.80.

Boeck, seventh-grader Grace Rutter, freshman Maggie Rutter and sophomore Melanie Schwitters finished second in the 4x100 (53.94).

Schwitters, junior Abbey Erlanson, seventh-grader Danielle Hanson and junior Sveta Mason came in third in the 4x200 (1:54.33).

Mason, Blakeslee, Hanson and Schwitters took second in the 4x400 (4:22.94) while Pranke, freshman Cara Edwards, sophomore Amber Edwards and seventh-grader Katherine Hoffman nabbed second place in the 4x800 (10:48.04).

Allison Egge, a freshman, earned yet another second-place finish for the Bombers by throwing the discus 89 feet, 1 3/4 inches.
