With the two team scheduled to meet again Thursday in the Division 4 regional tournament, Lakers coach Eric Bjork elected to start Cole Carroll instead of one of his top two pitchers.

Carroll, a sophomore, pitched parts of two previous games this season and struggled with control; however, he threw a stellar game Tuesday in Plum City. Carroll earned the complete-game win, struck out 11 and surrendered just three hits. He also walked four Blue Devils.

Carroll helped himself by going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Pepin (6-10 overall, 6-7 Dunn-St. Croix Conference) broke the game open by scoring six times in the fifth inning.

The Lakers, the No. 4 seed, will play host to No. 5 Plum City on Thursday. Bjork said he expects Chad Fox to pitch for Plum City. He said hasn’t decided if he’ll give the ball to Jake Lerum or Adam Baader.
