The Wildcats received a pair of strong pitching performances Monday and split a doubleheader on the road.

In the opener, Andy Johnson allowed four runs over six innings, but just one of the runs was earned as Goodhue made three errors.

Johnson allowed six hits, walked two and struck out one.

"He had a really good day," Goodhue coach Eric Schofield said. "He was right around the zone all day."

Charlie Dicke hit a bases-clearing single in the top of the sixth to account for all three of his team's runs.

Brian Strauss earned the complete-game victory in the nightcap by striking out six and allowing three earned runs. He gave up eight hits and walked four.

"Brian threw a fantastic game for us again," Schofield said.

Once again, Goodhue did all its scoring in one inning as five consecutive Wildcats got a hit in the bottom of the fifth and they scored five times.

"Our bats finally woke up a little bit," Schofield said.

The Wildcats record now stands at 4-15 overall and 2-10 in the Hiawatha Valley League Blue. They play host to Blooming Prairie on Thursday.
