Area track and field: Campbell, Kuhl win 2 events at conference

Alex Campbell won the high jump and triple jump to help the Ellsworth boys finish third out of eight schools Tuesday at the Middle Border Conference meet.

Campbell cleared 6 feet, 2 inches in the high jump and he leapt 41-3 1/2 in the triple jump.

The Panthers finished with 104 points and trailed only host New Richmond (191) and Osceola (129.5).

Ellsworth's Jaylen Pavloski won the 1,600-meter run in 4 minutes, 40.40 seconds. He shaved 5 seconds off his previous best. Teammate Matt Priest placed first in the 3,200 (10:27.83).

The Ellsworth girls placed fourth with 85 points. Lydia Kuhl led the team with first-place finishes in both the 100 and 300 hurdles. She set a personal record in the finals of the 100 hurdles, reaching the finish in 16.19. She won the 300 hurdles in 49.55.

Abbey Ristow also brought home a first-place award as she took the conference title in the discus (120-2). Teammate Kerstin Kopp excelled in the same event, adding over 3 feet to her seed distance with a toss of 89-2. She took seventh.

Osceola won the girls competition with 177 points.

The Panthers travel Monday to Somerset for regionals.
